"I previously had an active State Farm policy covering two of my vehicles. In December, before Christmas, I attempted to purchase an additional vehicle and added a new policy for that car. However, I was unable to obtain the required documentation to release the vehicle from the dealership because the policy had not yet gone through underwriting. Due to this delay, I decided not to proceed with the purchase and contacted State Farm to cancel the new policy. I was advised to contact my agent directly, which I did. My agent confirmed that since the policy was never effective, it was canceled and I would receive a refund by check. This conversation took place in December. By January, no refund had been received, so I contacted my agent for an update. I was then informed—contrary to what I had originally been told—that there would be no refund issued. Instead, the credit of $240.06 from the canceled policy would be applied to my existing policies for February and March, and no check would be mailed. This change in information was frustrating, especially since once I expressed concern, there was no further proactive communication from my agent. While trying to understand what was happening with my money, communication between my agent and me became tense. I felt my concerns were not being acknowledged, and the interaction became unprofessional. During that exchange, I mentioned that if all policies were canceled, a refund would have to be issued, and I also requested cancellation paperwork, which was sent. After calming down, I ultimately decided to keep my existing policies, understanding that the credit would offset future costs. On January 14, 2026, I received an email from State Farm stating that a refund had been processed. This refund included not only the canceled policy but also prorated refunds for my two original policies—which I never intended to cancel. When I contacted my agent, Silvia, she explained that a text message I sent stating “cancel the policy” was taken as consent to cancel all policies. As a result, I have unknowingly been uninsured since January 6, 2026. While the lapse in coverage was short, not being notified that my insurance was canceled is extremely concerning and unprofessional. This could have resulted in serious consequences, including fines, tickets, or even suspension of my driver’s license. Unfortunately, throughout this situation, my agent displayed what I felt was an aggressive and dismissive attitude, with little urgency to resolve or correct the issue. Because of this experience, I am no longer a State Farm customer. It is disappointing, as State Farm is otherwise a reputable company, but this situation was significantly impacted by the handling and attitude of one agent."
